Remarks: Spawns January through March; protogynous hermaphrodites, older females becoming breeding males; omnivorous bottom feeders, diet mainly consists of small fish, crustaceans, and shellfish. When targeting these species my favorite bait is any soft plastic jig with a 3/8 ounce jig head. The color that is my favorite is any really bright (neon yellow) but a live shrimp or squid will also suffice.
